Mindful Children and Mindfulness in Schools

In the October issue of The Psychologist, Dan Jones writes about the teaching of mindfulness in schools.

It’s an interesting subject. Children are arguably ‘naturally mindful’ individuals, and often they seem to practice mindfulness without knowing what it is – but on the other hand, our education systems sometimes seem to be so far away from mindful practice that I wonder whether schools drain children of that particular ability.

It’s that old debate, I suppose, about people being born quite wise and the wisdom then diminishing rapidly because of societal pressures.

On a related subject, here’s R. Katz writing in the excellent magazine The Green Parent about encouraging unbounded thinking in children.
